Mexico is taking a stand against cosmetic animal testing by banning it nationwide.
They made history as the first North American country and the 41st country globally to outlaw the cruel and unnecessary testing.
Cosmetic animal testing claims the lives of over 100,000 animals in the U.S. every year.
Rabbits are the more commonly used test subjects and endure endless painful procedures. Chemicals are dripped into their eyes and poured on their sensitive skin. The testing methods are not only outdated and inaccurate, but inhumane.
The Humane Society International (HSI) teamed up with celebrity animal activists and created a stop-motion animated film, Save Ralph, to raise awareness and end cosmetic animal testing worldwide.
And it is working!
The spokes-rabbit named Ralph shared his heartbreaking story of what life is like for a lab rabbit. The innocent animals must endure brutal procedures, and the ones that survive are then killed when no longer needed. The powerful film led over 1.3 million people in Mexico to sign a petition to ban cosmetic animal testing.

Antón Aguilar, executive director of Humane Society International/Mexico is elated by the news and said, “We thank the Mexican Government for showing leadership on this important issue, and we will continue to work with them to implement the commitments and enforce a robust ban. This is a monumental step forward for animals, consumers and science in Mexico, and this ground-breaking legislation leads the way for the Americas to become the next cruelty-free beauty market, and brings us one bunny-leap closer to a global ban.”
Seven U.S. states have already banned the barbaric testing and three others are considering similar bills, but it is time for the U.S. to ban cosmetic animal testing nationwide.
You can help by pledging to buy only cruelty-free products and urging all cosmetic companies to use modern alternatives that do not involve innocent animals.
