St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner, and this year, we’ve decided to celebrate by sharing good fortune with shelter pets in need.
On Thursday, March 17, we’re teaming up with Greater Good Charities to fly 40 at-risk shelter dogs to safety on our “Luck of the Irish” Flight to Freedom, which will travel from Lousiana to Idaho on St. Patrick’s Day.
Each shelter pet passenger will have been rescued from Louisiana, where shelter overcrowding leaves animals at risk for euthanasia. But in other parts of the country, including the Pacific Northwest, demand for adoption is soaring. Our March 17 flight will correct this imbalance by flying 40 adoptable dogs to Boise, Idaho, where they’ll get adopted in days.
Our “Luck of the Irish” Flight to Freedom will save shelter dogs like Fia and Oshaun, two lucky pups about to strike gold after being born into an “unwanted” litter down in Louisiana. Once Fia and Oshuan touch down in Boise, they’ll be adopted into loving homes and never feel unwanted again.
Our “Luck of the Irish” Flight to Freedom is also flying rescued puppies like Cooper, Coppola, and Popcorn to better lives in Boise, Idaho. These adorable puppies also came from unwanted litters, which are sadly common in the South, where pet owners frequently fail to neuter/spay their animals.
Fortunately, these lucky pups are about to learn how geography can make all the difference when it comes to getting adopted. By the time our “Luck of the Irish” Flight to Freedom lands in Boise, Cooper, Coppola, and Popcorn will have gone from unwanted puppies to highly in-demand dogs who will be adopted in days.
Our March 17 flight even includes a dog named Irish, whose serendipitous name suggests that he was destined for our “Luck of the Irish” Flight to Freedom!
Despite an unpromising start in the South–where euthanasia is high and rates of adoption are low–Irish has finally found his one-way ticket to freedom, safety, and his very own home.
However, we need your help showing these Louisiana shelter pets what the “luck of the Irish” is all about.
Flights to Freedom are funded entirely through reader donations, so we’re counting on your support to help us fly Irish, Fia, Oshaun, Cooper, Coppola, and Popcorn to safety and adoption. Without this flight, many of these shelter pets will be at risk for euthanasia.
Your donations can make a big difference for these needy animals. Just $5 allows us to fund 125 air miles for one shelter pet passenger, while larger donations help us show even more shelter pets what it’s like to have luck on their side.
Can you make a donation to help us fly Irish, Fia, Oshaun, Cooper, Coppola, Popcorn, and other shelter dogs to safety on St. Patrick’s Day?
