What do you get when you cross a mallard and Indian runner duck? A really tall duck named Long Boi.

The friendly duck has become a local celebrity to students at the University of York, where he lives among other mallard ducks and feathered friends.

He stands out in a flock with his bottle-shaped body and most people do a double take when they first spot him on campus.

While he towers over his mallard friends at 70cm, he is a normal height for an Indian Runner duck. Males can reach up to 30 inches in height and weigh about 5 pounds.

As if his height wasn’t impressive enough, the upright duck runs instead of waddling. Check it out.

Long Boi quickly captured the attention and hearts of the students and is now greeted daily, usually with a handful of birdseed. While other birds eat seeds off the ground, this waterfowl eats out of your hand – because he can actually reach it.

He’s often spotted resting, swimming, or patiently waiting for his next handout near the pond on campus. Some students have even captured him doing yoga poses.

Long Boi can swim, run, do yoga poses, but the one thing he can’t do is fly. However, he seems to get around just fine on his large, orange webbed feet.

He is now a viral sensation with nearly 24K followers thanks to his very own Instagram page, which is managed by students. The profile bio states, “Looks a bit different but kind at heart & a clever boi.”

Long Boi is loved by all, except by a few mallards and geese that will chase him off for food. Be sure to follow him on Instagram and share his story with your friends and family.
