When an Ohio man decided to visit the local racetrack and casino, he was hoping to win big. But the trip spelled misfortune for his trusty dog, who was left alone in the car while her owner gambled for hours. The man didn’t even bother cracking a window to give the dog some air.
By 1 pm, the temperature outside had climbed to 84 degrees, which is when worried bystanders began calling the police. One man called 911 after watching a heavily panting dog collapse on the seat. According to WKBN, “frantic” bystanders pointed officers to the car with the sweltering dog inside.

But when officers arrived, the pit bull appeared to be having a seizure on the floor. By the time police forced open the door, the overheated dog was hot to the touch and unresponsive, according to WKPN. According to security cameras, the car had been parked in this spot for almost 12 hours.
Now the dog has been rushed to the animal hospital, but-–at time of writing–there was still no word on her condition. However, the prognosis does not look good. According to Animal Charity of Ohio, which assumed care of the dog, the poor dog is “in no way out of the woods.”

“Today, Animal Charity Humane Agent responded to a call of a dog being left in a hot vehicle, Animal Charity of Ohio recalled on Facebook. “The local police freed the dog from the car where she was found unresponsive. Our Humane Agent quickly brought her into Animal Charity Clinic where she was prepped for transport to the emergency department in Akron.”
“She is in no way out of the woods and is in need of every good thought and prayer you can send! We will update as soon as we hear from the hospital,” rescuers continued. “This is a cruel reminder to NEVER leave an animal in a car!”
According to WFMJ, the dog’s owner claimed he simply “lost track of time,” but this is no excuse for putting a dog in danger.
This brazenly criminal neglect has resulted in the owner being charged with animal cruelty and banned from the racino. He should also be barred from ever owning an animal again.
