Graham Whatmough was taking a walk through the woods in his homeland of Canada when he decided to veer off-trail a bit.
He initially had been going after some wild cranberries he’d spotted, but after a few moments of gathering berries, he noticed an animal hiding beside a fallen log. It wasn’t a wild animal though, it was a dog!
According to The Dodo, Graham shared that the dog had been living there for a while it looked like.
Naturally, Graham approached the dog, but she didn’t seem very friendly. She began growling at him, but he wasn’t going to give up on her. He waited patiently while the pup got used to him, and then he offered her some water – and she drank a liter!

It seemed the dog, who Graham named Willow, had warmed up to him enough after being offered the water. He was able to coax her out of her spot and get her into his car.
After taking Willow to the vet, it was discovered that the poor dog was suffering from two broken hind legs. Initially, Graham was expecting to find Willow’s family, but no one claimed her – so, he decided to take her in for himself.
After seeing multiple veterinarians, he decided to forgo surgery to fix Willow’s legs since it was likely she’d have a limp either way. Slowly, her legs healed and she’s now quite an adventure buddy!
After a while, Willow ended up getting pregnant and had a litter of 9 puppies.
They all turned out healthy and were adopted out to Graham’s friends!
Graham shared with The Dodo that Willow spends most hours of the day with him. They do everything together. How sweet!
