They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, which has proven to be false over the years. Yes, old dogs can indeed learn new tricks.
In the past, they’ve also said that you can’t teach a cat any tricks at all. But according to one video, this is also a falsity, as it is possible to teach cats how to perform tricks.
Granted, cats are not as eager to please their owners like dogs are, but that doesn’t mean that they’re not intelligent enough – or food motivated enough – to pick up on some cool party tricks.
My cat at home knows how to “dance” for her food. It was something she started doing as a kitten – standing on her back legs and moving her paws in a rhythmic manner – and it has stuck since we’ve constantly been reinforcing her “dinner dance” with food rewards. Food rewards make a great way of training cats according to cat trainer, Robert Dollwet.
Dollwet made a highly informative video featuring his talented cat, Didga, and shared with audiences how they can get their cats to learn how to roll over just like a dog. According to Dollwet, the best channel to success involves a clicker, treats, and a willing participant. In order words, a cat who is willing to try.
As explained in the video, “The making of this video, Didga had the Guinness World Record for most tricks by a cat in one minute, We couldn’t have achieved this without the clicker.”
You never know, you might be able to show off your cat’s rolling skills at your next dinner party!
