There is a right way and a wrong way to surrender a pet you can no longer care for. A Michigan woman was captured on camera tossing two malnourished puppies over the fence of Jackson County Animal Shelter and driving off.

WILX News 10 shared the shocking footage captured on the shelter’s security cameras and asked the community for help in finding the person in the video.

The neglected 6-month-old huskies were taken in and examined by a vet who discovered a head injury on one of the puppies. It turned out to be an abscess that is being treated.

They arrived severely underweight weighing just eight and eleven pounds and riddled with parasites.

The sweet pups were named Reign and Ryder and the shelter shared an update on their recovery. “Both pups have gained weight and are more active and playful everyday.”

Their first few days were spent under the watchful eye of the shelter team. When they appeared to be out of harm’s way, the puppies headed to a foster home to continue to recover.

There they continued to grow and thrive thanks to proper nutrition and unconditional love.

The puppies were placed up for adoption a few weeks later and quickly found a loving home together. The shelter shared the good news on Facebook and wrote, “From suffering from neglect, malnutrition and parasites then being thrown over a fence…these 2 survivors are now ready to live their best life in a loving home!”

The woman who dumped the puppies at the shelter was located thanks to a tip WILX received and admitted to abandoning the puppies. Lydia Sattler, the Jackson County Animal Shelter Director, told the news station, “There were eight puppies in total that as a result of the litter that this family had, and these are just two of them. So, other than that, the investigation is ongoing.”
