A large black Lab caught on a recent TikTok video is a scaredy cat when it comes to Halloween decorations. His name is Maverick, and the footage of him frozen among the decorations is hysterical. It’s as if Medusa laid eyes on him, and he unwittingly returned her gaze. It seems that the handsome pooch is not a fan of cats, period, and when he discovered the display, he was nearly paralyzed among them. The video has garnered so many views and is so hysterically funny that even CNN had to investigate.
Halloween Cats
The cats in question are simple Halloween decorations of black cats attached to garden stakes that can be pushed into the ground. At first glance, you’d assume Maverick was a part of the display. Not so. Lilly Flores, one of Maverick’s pet parents, was able to capture the 50-second video of him frozen like a bronze pointer. Since she posted it to her TikTok account @lilyyyyyyyannnn on October 9, the video has received more than 10.5 million views and counting. Fellow TikTokers have been having a blast in the comments section with remarks like it appeared Maverick had been “paused” or that he was somehow glitching.
Glitch in the Matrix
“It’s like somebody just froze him in place,” Adam Flores, his other human, reportedly told CNN during a brief interview. While black Labs aren’t pointers, they have been used for hunting and can be taught to point. It was noted that Maverick’s tail wasn’t indicating fear during the funny TikTok encounter and that after almost a full minute of near-complete stillness, his tail does start to gently twitch in a happy wag when his dad coaxes him reassuringly. You have to watch it yourself to appreciate the absolute hilarity of the moment.
