A man from San Antonio, Texas, wants to help a survivor of the Uvalde school shooting by providing them with a professional trained service dog, free of charge.
Eric Andrade hopes to send the dog, Stinky, to one of the families in Uvalde, to help them heal from the awful tragedy.
Andrade, a professional canine handler at 3DK9 Detection Services, has been fostering Stinky, a German Shepherd.
Stinky will soon begin his training to become a service dog.
He is a very needy dog and has a drive for praise rather than toys or food, so Andrade believes he will be perfect for a family that seeks that kind of attention and comfort.
According to American Humane, scientific research shows that specially trained service dogs for post-traumatic stress disorder can reduce stress and anxiety levels, mitigate depression, ease social reintegration, and of course, provide comfort.
Although Stinky is being trained to become a service dog for a healing family, the majority of dogs at 3DK9 Detection Services are trained to defend, detect, and deter.
They train drug sniffing dogs to detect a range of illicit substances, explosive detection dogs, K9 security dogs, and K9 patrol dogs. All of their dogs are trained to remain calm and composed in public, while also being prepared to jump into action when needed.
