As 2022 comes to an end, we wanted to look back at the year and share how your support has helped fly over 900 at-risk shelter pets to loving homes on Flights to Freedom.

This year has been tough for animal shelters that have seen an increase in surrendered dogs and strays and a decrease in adopters. It has been especially hard for large dogs who are often seen as more work. Every month, along with our partner Greater Good Charities, we take dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters in the South and fly them to shelters with open kennels and families ready to adopt.

We added an extra flight in August to help even more homeless pets, and when the December flight got cancelled, we transported pets in vans. With your generous support, we carried 622 dogs and 326 cats over a total of 18,500 miles to find forever homes.

Remember the cat named Craft? Craft wandered into a craftsman’s shop one day and stayed there for eight years. When the man’s health started to fail, he reached out to his local shelter to help Craft find a loving home. The sweet feline hitched a ride on our October Flight to Freedom and found a loving home.

Who could forget Valda, the malnourished puppy suffering from mange. The little fighter was flown out of a Louisiana shelter to Washington where she was adopted.

Hundreds of other dogs and cats are finally in a home for the holidays. They are living their best lives and send kisses and soft purrs to all who helped.

Thousands of highly adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized each year simply because there are not enough adopters. We are saving lives by transporting these homeless pets to shelters that have adopters waiting. Learn more about how you can help support our monthly Flight to Freedom here.
