A dog is being praised as a hero after leading police to his owner who’d been missing for a week.
According to a press release from the Sonora Prosecutor’s Office, 84-year-old Gregoria Romero went for a walk on November 27 near his home in Moctezuma, Mexico when he became disoriented and couldn’t find his way home.

It wasn’t until four days later that a family member reported him missing, citing that he often wanders to nearby villages for a few days at a time so they weren’t worried the first day or two.
After he was reported missing, a full-blown search was initiated. Members of the National Guard, the local police, the Municipal Civil Protection Unit, and trained dogs went out in search of him.
Days passed with no trace of Romero. After a week went by, officials had the idea to let Romero’s dog out, a 2-year-old Creole breed named El Palomo.
Miraculously, on December 4, the dog led authorities through two miles of rough desert terrain, straight to Romero!
The elderly man was on the ground and suffering from dehydration and malnutrition, but he was otherwise ok. Authorities escorted him to a hospital for treatment and Romero stayed right by his side the whole time.
