Cats are hardly ever considered heroes, but the truth is that cats can be quite heroic when they want to be.
They can show the same care and compassion towards their people as dogs do, and this will often lead them to extraordinary feats of heroism.
Such is the case of Mandy the cat, who is being hailed a heroine for her role in saving her owner during a recent house fire.
The brave little feline was even presented a plaque by the Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department in Chattanooga, TN, as an honor for her actions!
Mandy might just be a kitty, but she went above and beyond for her owner, Tammy York. The cat owner had been watching movies at home one evening when she ended up falling asleep. We’ve all done that – fallen asleep in front of the television.
Only what Tammy was unaware of, was the fact that she had left some candles burning. According to the Chattanoogan, Amy Maxwell of the Hamilton County Emergency Services later explained that the candle wax had ended up dripping down onto the carpet and eventually led to a fire breaking out. And Tammy was asleep!
The cat owner was so lucky that she had someone in the home to warn her. Mandy immediately began to try and warn her owner by pawing at her and meowing. However, Tammy wasn’t easily roused. Rather than give up and save herself, Mandy knew she had to get more persistent.
As Tammy recalled, to the Chattanoogan, “I remember the cat, Mandy, making strange noises and tugging on my nightgown. I never woke up. Then she pounced on my chest and slapped in the face with her paws. I immediately woke up and began choking due to the heavy smoke in my house! Myself and Mandy were able to escape unharmed.”
The pair got out in time, and firefighters were on the scene only moments later and were able to save the home. But it didn’t escape unscathed, as it was estimated the fire did about $20,000 worth of damage. But at the end of the day, one can’t put a price tag on a furry friend that is loyal to the end.
As Tammy stated about her beloved Mandy, “She’s my guardian angel.”
What an angel indeed!
