On February 7, millions of Americans will tune in to watch the NFL’s top teams compete for the league’s championship ring. But here at the Animal Rescue Site, we have a different tradition – The Shelter Bowl – which provides free meals to hungry shelter pets across the United States. Our goal this year is to raise $50,000 for animals in need.

Now in its 6th year, the Shelter Bowl was founded by our nonprofit partner, Greater Good Charities, which distributes nutritious meals to hungry shelter pets through their signature Rescue Bank program.

Shelter Bowl has already provided 10 million meals since its inception, but Shelter Bowl 2021 could be our most impactful year yet. The pandemic has created extraordinary hardship in shelters across the country, so this year, we’re hoping to distribute even more pet food to help shelters and rescues care for their animals.

“Pet food is typically the largest expense of any animal shelter and the coronavirus pandemic has only created more economic hardships,” said Liz Baker, CEO for Greater Good Charities. “This year’s Shelter Bowl donation will go to those shelters hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic to help free up cash resources that in return can be used for items like veterinary care.”

Rescue Bank helps dogs like Laia and Lexa, two abandoned puppies who nearly starved after being dumped on a lonely riverbank. While the pups recover from their ordeal in foster care, Rescue Bank will provide Laia and Lexa with tasty, nutritious dog food – allowing their rescuers to focus on veterinary care, vaccinations, and everything else the puppies need to grow into happy, healthy dogs and get adopted.

According to the National Retail Federation, football fans spend $89 per person on food, drinks, and other items for the Big Game. But if people gave a similar amount in Shelter Bowl 2021, we could deliver 1,780 meals to hungry shelter pets! From Feb 1-Feb 7, your donations will even be doubled by Purina, which will be matching this year’s Shelter Bowl donations up to $50,000.

Please help us get to the end zone by making a Shelter Bowl donation today! Your donations will help us feed Laia, Lexa, and countless other animals during this time of unprecedented need.
