The maternal instinct is one of the strongest ones in the world. For one mama dog, Milo, the loss of her entire litter of puppies sent her into a tailspin.

The poor dog was so distraught by the death of her puppies, she would often wander around, searching for them.

It was so heartbreaking to watch this grieving mother desperately looking for her puppies, that Sunshine Dog Rescue began putting out requests for any orphaned puppies who might be in need of a mom.

While they didn’t get any offers on puppies, they were informed about a litter of kittens who’d been abandoned and needed a mother.

That is when the rescue decided to give it a try and introduce Milo to these orphaned baby felines. They introduced the kittens to Milo one by one, and she showed absolutely no signs of aggression or rejection at all.

Instead, she warmed to them almost immediately, taking them in as if they were her own.

Milo even developed a favorite amongst the kittens. The little cat, Gumball, was often seen being carried around by the mama dog in her mouth.

Of course, this didn’t mean that she didn’t love all three of the kittens, she just seemed to coddle little Gumball that bit more.
