One little goldfish was stuck upside-down at the bottom of her tank due to a buoyancy issue. However, her luck turned for the better when a rescue stepped in and fitted the little fish with a custom lifejacket that would allow her to swim right-side up.
The goldish suffered from a condition known as swim bladder, according to the Daily Mail. The owners of the goldfish were told that the swim bladder was untreatable and the little fish would be stuck upside-down at the bottom of her tank for the rest of her life.
Naturally, the goldfish owners were saddened by the news, but they didn’t give up hope. They were willing to try anything to help their fish live a better life, so they sought out help from The Garden Sanctuary, an animal rescue sanctuary located in England.
The founder of the sanctuary, Stacey O’Shea, opened her home to the little fish and committed to finding a solution for him. As she shared on Facebook, she tried multiple treatments with no luck, and that’s when she decided to try making a lifejacket that would hold the fish up.

She said, “We tried a number of treatments with no success so we have made a chair to keep her upright and give her a better quality of life.”
As O’Shea shared in a comment, she made the little jacket from a small kit purchased on Amazon, along with Polystyrene for the float.
The adjustable jacket is perfectly weighted to keep the goldfish at the level of the tank needed. At night, she adds a little more weight so he can sink down to the bottom to be with his friends, and during the day she lightens the jacket to allow him to swim in the middle of the tank.
O’Shea shared videos of the fish using his jacket and successfully swimming right-side up! Check it out below:
The Garden Sanctuary kept the little goldish, with O’Shea adjusting its lifejacket daily, until the end of his life. We’re so glad he got to live out the last of days in comfort and not at the bottom of a tank!
