A missing golden retriever has been reunited with her family thanks to the help of another dog and heroic firefighters.
Macy, a senior golden retriever, wandered off and fell into a sinkhole in Marilla Park in Streator, Illinois.
Another dog named Wrigley found Macy in the hole while out for a walk and alerted his dad who immediately called for help.
Streator firefighters came to the rescue.
“This dog had fell into a five-foot hole, who has been missing for about 24 hours, from what I understand,” Fire Chief, Fred McClellan told WKBW.
The first rescue idea was to lower a ladder into the hole and have Macy climb out on her own, but due to her age that was not possible.
The ground was very unstable, but McClellan climbed down into the hole to rescue Macy. She was lifted to safety as the ground gave away.
Thankfully, no one was injured.
Macy was so excited to be free and reunited with her family. After thanking the firefighters profusely for their help, the family brought their beloved dog to the vet to be examined. Aside from being a bit shaken, she is fine and resting at home.
