A 2-year-old golden retriever is going viral for his adorable love story with the neighbor’s dog, Penny.

Justin and Emily Thomas noticed their dog, Pax, started an unusual habit. Every time they’d let him outside, he’d run straight to the fence without sniffing around or doing his business.

After watching his new routine for a bit, they realized why he had such a fascination with the fence: the neighbor’s dog, Penny, was right on the other side of it!

Speaking with The Dodo, Emily explained that weeks passed and Pax and Penny formed a strong relationship through the fence.

They’d always go outside to greet each other, and though they couldn’t physically play together, their bond became unshakeable.

It soon became clear to both of the dogs’ parents that they needed to get Penny and Pax together for a real playdate. They were just so jazzed about each other, they deserved to be able to run and chase each other without the hindrance of a fence.

Eventually, the owners scheduled a play date, and Penny and Pax couldn’t be more thrilled.

The two were just as good of friends without a fence separating them, and Emily even referred to them as being like “boyfriend and girlfriend.”
