As humans, we often think of ourselves as superior to animals because of our emotional capacity. But we’re wrong to think that we’re the only ones in this world capable of feelings.

As one very sweet video from a zoo in New South Wales, Australia showed, animals are more than capable of showing kindness and empathy for their fellow creatures.

In the footage, viewers can see how a large gorilla comes to the rescue of an injured bird. The impressively-sized ape first takes note of the injured bird on the ground. The gentle gorilla walks over to the bird. The video clip includes people in the background worrying about the gorilla getting the bird. They weren’t sure what to expect.

The gorilla gently poked at the bird’s wings, inciting some flapping. This causes the gorilla to nudge it ever so softly in an attempt to get it to fly. When the bird wouldn’t, the gorilla ended up walking off, leaving the bird safe inside his enclosure.

The scene that unfolded had a lot of people surprised by the care that was shown to the bird by the gentle giant. It impressed many people as it served as a reminder that animals can be kind and compassionate towards one another, just like people. The gorilla easily could’ve harmed the injured bird, but it didn’t. And that is quite sweet to know that it tried its best to help.
