The men who pick up the waste in our neighborhoods are often there and gone before we ever get out of bed in the morning. They sometimes see things that the rest of the world doesn’t see. Those early morning sights can be inspiring but they can also be distressing, and that was the case with a Rumpke Waste & Recycling truck driver.
Aaron Kinsel was busy working the route outside of Cincinnati in Colerain Township when something unusual caught his eye. It was a backpack that was discarded beside the road.
He could’ve simply driven by and not given it any attention but, according to a press release, he investigated and found a 10-week old puppy in the bag.
Somehow, he said that he was “meant to find her.” The waste management company reported on the matter further, saying that the female boxer mix had a broken leg and was suffering from dehydration.

At that point, she was taken to a local veterinarian and it was determined the pup would need expensive surgery or to be amputated. Rumpke is willing to put its own money up for the puppy’s treatment to ensure that she does well. Kinsel has named her Tipper.
According to a statement from a local news station, WLWT: “Rumpke team members are currently getting the puppy much-needed care at a local veterinarian.”
In the press release, a safety manager for the waste company said that Rumpke drivers are taught to remain vigilant for the safety of their customers and their own safety. She went on to say that the company was proud that Aaron decided to make Tipper an honorary member of their team.
Kinsel will now be bringing the puppy in as an official member of his family and he told WLWT that they are taking the advice of veterinarians to have the leg amputated to avoid further problems that could result from surgery.
Rumpke shared an update that Tipper underwent her amputation today. They said, “The surgery went well and she is currently recovering at the veterinarian office.” Aaron is eager to bring her home.
