Firefighters responded to a call about a fire in a high-rise apartment building in Virginia Beach.

According to a Facebook post shared by Virginia Beach Animal Control, a firefighter discovered a husky on the 15th floor of the building.

The dog was unconscious, but the firefighter wasn’t about to leave him up there. He immediately began to carry the massive, unconscious dog down all 15 flights of stairs. As soon as they got outside, he got the husky oxygen.

Thankfully, the husky, who was named Igor, responded well to oxygen. Animal control said, “This pup was unconscious when the fire fighter found him but they immediately got him oxygen when they got him down to the street and the dog became alert and responsive.”

While Igor did experience smoke inhalation, he didn’t sustain any burns and is expected to make a full recovery. The dog was transferred to the Bay Beach Vet Hospital and released to his owners shortly after.

Igor’s mom, Chrissy Ross, commented on the post, saying, “We would like to personally thank all 1st responders for all of their help yesterday, and also some special angels who helped along the way.”

Ross later shared photos of Igor at the beach and park on Facebook and he seems to be doing amazing.
