11/5/24 Update:

The Hudson fires that sparked just east of Bastrop on Sunday are now 50% contained and evacuations lifted; however, our support of animals in need continues today. Bastrop Animal Care Service (BCAS) has shared that Animal Care Officers are canvasing the affected area, and APA! stands at the ready to take any injured animals that they may find.

In addition to taking in injured animals, we’re also bringing more pets, including kittens(!) from BCAS later this afternoon!

Here’s how you can help today:

Foster: We sent 14 dogs to foster or adoptive homes yesterday and need to keep moving dogs and cats out in preparation for more headed our way! Head to our main location at 1156 W. Cesar Chavez NOW to help! We’re open until 7pm tonight. If you can’t come today but are willing to help foster soon, click here.

Donate: It takes about $300 to intake healthy dogs and cats into our care. With the potential of injured pets needing our help, we’re looking to our community to join us in their lifesaving. Your gifts support both healthy pets and those who require medical support. Click here!

11/4/24:

Fires are currently blazing just east of Bastrop and we are en route to quickly ensure animals in the area stay safe!

We’re working directly with Bastrop County Animal Services (BCAS) to help move the 142 animals out of their care and need fosters to come forward, right now!

BCAS is currently full and is the only animal shelter for multiple communities, including Cedar Creek, Elgin, Smithville and Bastrop. With the potential of displaced animals coming in, pets at the shelter are at risk.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Foster a dog or cat – Head to our main location at 1156 W. Cesar Chavez NOW to meet someone already in our care. We’re extending our hours until 7pm, and will be open tomorrow 10am-7pm.
  • Donate – We’re bringing animals from BCAS into our care and with that, will incur additional costs with transport, care, and ensuring these animals find a home. Click here to donate today to support animals in need!
