All dogs deserve to live in a home where they are loved. Sadly, this isn’t always the case.
There are loads of homeless dogs out there in the world, some of whom have never known a caring household in their whole life. It’s heartbreaking to think about.
For one elderly dog, she had spent her entire life living as a stray in the streets. Unfortunately, one day she got hit by a car and was immobilized.
Unable to walk, her future looked quite grim. Luckily, she was found by a Good Samaritan who was worried about her and alerted DAR Rescue to her situation.
That is when Ermioni of DAR Rescue stepped in to help the senior pup. Upon arriving at the scene, she was informed that the old dog was estimated to be about 13 or 14 years old, and had been living her entire life as a stray along the Plastira Lake – a beautiful spot in Greece where she lived off the kindness of tourists. The Good Samaritan also mentioned that the older dog had survived various injuries before this incident.
When Ermioni arrived, the dog wasn’t able to move at all because both her back legs had been injured. Still, she was able to get the dog into a crate and transported her to a veterinarian for an examination.
While at the vet’s it came to light that the dog had actually had previous broken bone injuries that had healed on their own. The poor dog really had been through the wars throughout her life.
The senior pup was kept at the clinic, but for the first few days, she refused to eat. She also was unable to walk. However, after a few days, the hunger won out and she would sneak food when she thought no one was looking.
Things started getting even better when she started being able to stand up on her own. And the old dog even made friends with a little kitten!
After a month of recovery at the vet clinic, she was finally ready to transition to DAR’s shelter where she’ll have a warm bed and food as she waits for the forever home she deserves. Hopefully she finds it soon!
