It’s the time of year when we often think about being home for the holidays. To help make that a reality for pets from overcrowded shelters in the South, we’re flying at-risk dogs and cats to better lives just before Thanksgiving.

On November 22, this month’s Save-A-Heart flight will transport dozens of dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, to rescues in New Jersey with room for them. After arrival, they’ll be quickly adopted, so they’ll always have a home for the holidays.

Overcrowding often happens in shelters during the winter months, and many of these pets would have a rough time finding loving families if they were to remain where they are. With your help, we’re tackling this issue together.

For this transport, as little as $5 will go a long way, covering 125 miles of travel for a pet in need, and all gifts will be matched by a generous donor, up to $35,000.

Among the animals on this flight is CeCe, a 3-month-old terrier mix, who was found as a stray by a kind animal lover who agreed to foster her so she wouldn’t have to spend time at the shelter. The foster nursed her back to health and has lovingly prepared her for her new life. CeCe is described as quiet and very well-mannered for her age.

Another animal your contributions will help is Squirrel, a 2-year-old Yorkie mix who came to the Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter after her owner died.

The shelter says, “She was so scared when she first arrived, but with patience and understanding from staff, she is starting to gain her confidence back. Squirrel will be looking for a quiet family willing to give her the time and space to blossom in her new home.”
