Marlo the mutt loves going to the golf course with his owner and he’s even got involved in the game in his own way!
According to Euronews, Marlo’s owner, Charles Jefferson, was out golfing one day when he noticed his pup had picked up a ball he found in the bushes. After inspecting the ball, Jefferson was pleased to discover it was worth $3.50!
Considering there are an estimated 300 million golf balls lost each year according to CNN, it makes sense that Jefferson thought it’d be a bright idea to have Marlo start collecting some of those balls. Not only would it help the environment by removing lost golf balls from the earth, but it could also be a great way to make a little money on the side considering how much golf balls can sell for.
However, Jefferson ended up using the balls Marlo found for something better – he donated them to charity!
Over the course of 6 years, Jefferson and Marlo went to several golf courses in search of lost balls. Marlo collected over 6,000 balls in total, most of which Jefferson donated to the DP World Tour.
The tour had a goal of filling up a 20-foot long shipping container with second-hand tour-grade balls. They planned to send the collected balls to Kenya’s Junior Golf Foundation, the South African Disabled Golf Association, the European Disabled Golf Association, the UAE’s Chicks with Sticks, and India’s Golf Foundation.
Way to go, Marlo!
