Meet Charlie.
For the first five years of his life, he was not properly cared for and lived in an old building with 44 other dogs in Welsh before all were rescued by the RSPCA.
Charlie arrived terrified of everything and hid in the back of his kennel for weeks.
His caregivers said he was “so nervous and withdrawn when he first arrived, that he didn’t move from the corner of his kennel for about six weeks.”
He slowly warmed up to staff and started to trust them enough to rest his head in their hands. However, it took five months to build his confidence enough to go outside.
The dedicated staff continued to work with him and after being at the shelter for a year he is ready to find a loving home.
“Charlie had been living in inappropriate conditions in a dilapidated outhouse with 44 other dogs and had never experienced a normal life before he came to us. His cheeky little personality has now really come out and he’s shown everyone that time and patience really does pay off,” stated Hayley Moorey, RSPCA’s behavior and welfare adviser.
While he has drastically improved from when he first arrived, he will still need to meet potential adopters several times to see if they are a fit.

The sweet boy will need a home without children and a patient owner who will give him time and space to adjust to his new surroundings.
Charlie would love a fenced-in yard to run in and another mellow dog to play with. Once he feels comfortable with someone, he loves to give kisses and is such a good boy.
“It’s been quite a journey for him, but we are all over the moon at his progress and the opportunity he now has to lead the life that he always should have had,” said Moorey.
He has been at the shelter for 400 days and is the “longest stayer” at the shelter. The shelter posted, “We’ve got everything crossed his pawfect match will come along soon!”
He just needs someone to take a chance on him and give him the love he deserves.
