Pets are a gift that should not be taken for granted. Unfortunately, not everyone who gets a pet treats them with love and respect. And for one previously neglected mixed beagle pup, he finally has received a second chance at a happy family.
The sweet little pooch named Bean had spent the first three years of his life tucked away inside an outdoor cage. According to PETA, poor Bean’s housing was “filled with trash, his only shelter a rotting doghouse until PETA replaced it, and the only affection he received came from PETA’s fieldworkers who visited him as much as they could, giving him water, food, companionship and his first toy ever.”
Fortunately for Bean, everything turned around for the better. And this year, Bean is getting his happily ever after. PETA finally convinced Bean’s owner to surrender the dog and let them take him. This has allowed the animal rescue to get Bean a brand new home in time for the holidays. PETA was able to place him with a forever family that loves him – and allows him indoors as well!
The heartwarming video below showed that the little dog started off life in a pretty sad state. Living constantly outside will definitely bring a dog’s spirit down. PETA had posted about Bean’s situation earlier in the year in October, hoping to get him a new home. Despite all he suffered having lived his entire life outside in the cold, Bean was still such a sweet and loving dog. Still, according to the PETA post, “It was clear that he longed for companionship.”
Eventually, Bean was adopted. And the ending of the video showed Bean as having a wonderful start to a holiday season. It is clearly going to be one that is full of joy and love for this very deserving doggie. Bean is shown in the video being indoors and enjoying his life.

Besides having a family to take him on walks and feed him plenty of treats, Bean is also getting spoiled rotten. He’s got plenty of Christmas gifts from his family. But perhaps the most wonderful gift he’s received this year is a family who loves him unconditionally and is constantly showering him with love and affection.
They were happy to announce on their post that “Christmas wishes really can come true.” And that is such a wonderful thing! According to PEOPLE, PETA’s Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch shared that it was a wonderful reminder that all pets deserve to live in homes where they are lived. She added that the story should be a gentle reminder to people to be on the lookout for potentially neglected pets that may be left outside in yards over the winter time. But more importantly, Nachminovitch is hoping that Bean’s story will remind people that holidays aren’t gifts, they’re living beings that require proper care and attention.
