Our dogs are loyal companions who will willingly follow us to the ends of the Earth – or up a ladder to the roof. And that is precisely what a golden retriever proved when he climbed up after his owner in Portland, Oregon. The incident happened as Vince Matteson went up to his roof in order to retrieve his Christmas lights.
When he turned around, he was surprised to see his pooch, Ace, on the roof behind him.
Vince admitted to PEOPLE that he was thoroughly shocked.
He checked his surveillance camera and saw the whole thing play out. Ace was seen calmly going up the ladder and then sashaying across the roof to where Vince was.

Vince has another dog, Bo, who wasn’t as brave as his brother, Ace. Instead, Bo served as the lookout who stayed on the ground while Ace went on his little adventure, making sure that everything was okay on the ground level – now that’s a true buddy!
After looking at the footage below, one would assume that Ace has done this plenty of times. The way that the little pooch easily stepped all the way up the ladder would easily be mistaken as the confidence of a frequent climber. However, according to CBS This Morning, this was Ace’s first time on a ladder. Ever.
It seems he’s a natural for getting up ladders. Of course, he did require a little bit of assistance on his descent down. As Vince shared on social media alongside the video of Ace, the golden retriever did have some help getting down. But then again, what are friends for?
