Our pets aren’t just an extension of our family – they are our family. That is why when one of them goes missing, it becomes a living nightmare.
Back in March, Steven Beltran and his family faced every dog owner’s worst nightmare after their dog Brownie, went missing. The small dog had gotten loose after the family’s gate was left open by accident.
They spent a week searching for their beloved Brownie, the searches lasting well into the late evening hours and starting early in the morning. The family, who live in Colombia, were desperate to find Brownie.

As Steven explained to the EL HERALDO, “We felt an emptiness and anguish because one sincerely thinks of the worst, for example: how he will be, if he will be eating well, if he will be drinking water, if someone will be mistreating him, if he was run over by a car, which was the worst thing one could imagine. It was something very ugly honestly.”
Then, a week after Brownie had gone missing, the family got the best surprise of their life when the small dog managed to make his way back home!
A week after his disappearance, the Beltrans were gearing up for another night of looking for Brownie, when the tiny dog surprised them by slipping through the front gate and walking into their family home. The family’s surveillance cameras managed to film the entire joyous reunion between Brownie and the Beltrans.
Speaking with the news outlet, Lina Gonzalez, one of the family members, recounted, “For me it was magical.” She added that the little dog came, “appearing out of nowhere,” and the reunion was very emotional as “there was screaming, we jumped, we cried, my dad seems to have won the lottery.”
Steven, himself, said of Brownie’s return, “He arrived alone, we thought of everything, except that he was going to arrive alone.”
The family was overcome with joy to have their beloved Brownie back home, safe where he belongs. While the tiny pooch had only been gone several days, his time away from home had definitely made an impact on the pup.
Poor Brownie was skinnier, having lost weight, and he was dehydrated. He even had a few bumps and bruises from his time away from home. But following a trip to the vet’s office the following day, he was declared to be in overall good health, and he made a speedy recovery from his ordeal following the reunion with his family.
The video of Brownie and his family reunion was shared on Twitter by Evelyn Carmono, who wrote, “cry with me,” in the caption – and it has since gone viral!
