Ask any mother, and they will tell you, raising children is hard work. It’s difficult enough to raise one child, but imagine if you had eight newborns to care for.
I’m not talking about Octomom. I’m talking about Cholula, a pit bull who was rescued along with her puppies.
According to The Dodo, it all started when Thom and Alisha went to their local animal rescue to foster a dog. They probably had envisioned bringing home a puppy or perhaps a young dog that needed some TLC, but they had no idea they would be bringing home a new mama dog.
Actually, they knew that it was possible to care for Cholula, as she had been taken from the city shelter to the rescue. That rescue, Wallis Annenberg PetSpace, was where Cholula had her puppies, so Thom and Alicia fostered nine dogs rather than one.
The couple set up a nursery for the mother and puppies, and they settled in. The mother was a little shy, but she was very attentive to the dogs and was busy feeding them all day long.
It was not only a long day for Cholula, but it was also a long day for the humans, and everyone was exhausted by the time it was over. That was especially true of the pitbull, who needed to be carried to bed every night by her human father.
It took about five weeks, but eventually, Cholula eventually was able to start playing with the puppies rather than feeding them all day long. It then wasn’t long before they were sent off to their forever families.
Thom doesn’t necessarily enjoy saying goodbye, but he also looks forward to the opportunity to get started again.
