As temperatures drop and the days get shorter, the countdown to the scariest time of year has begun. Halloween is a day filled with tasty treats, spooky decorations, and frightening costumes.

People are already decorating and planning their costume for the upcoming festivities, but one dog dad (TikTok user @rontendo64) decided to try out his hair-raising costume on his faithful companion, Mindy.

Mindy is a Labrador/pit bull mix and 100% good girl. Her keen sense of smell and guard dog skills were put to the test a few weeks ago when her dad dressed up in a werewolf costume and waited to surprise her outside on the deck.

She exited the house wagging her tail and immediately spotted the strange creature on the deck. She froze and when her dad made a growl noise, she went into what could be a defense or play position (depending on who you ask) but kept her distance.

She barked back and her tail wagging increased as she scurried around her dad and into the yard. Her adorable reaction was captured on video and shared on TikTok.

It has been viewed by over 4 million people with many saying they would have been terrified if they were in Mindy’s situation.

“That’s definitely me as a dog. deathly scared of a werewolf,” commented one person.

Some viewers thought the sweet pup was scared based on her low and fast tail wagging, while others said she knew it was her dad and was playing.

According to VCA Animal Hospitals, dogs wag their tails for many reasons and you can tell how they are feeling by the position and wagging speed.

A low tail can be a sign of submission and the increased speed can mean excitement or aggression.

Mindy’s dad responded to the comments with, “She knew it was me but wasn’t 100% sure. I’m lucky she didn’t take a taste test to know for sure lol.”

Other dog owners shared what their dogs would do if they tried this at home. “My dog would’ve ripped that to pieces 😂.”
