Two little puppies who were in grave danger are alive and well after San Bernardino County firefighters came to the rescue to save their lives.

The two curious pups made their way into an underground tortoise den in Yucca Valley, California, and ended up being stuck there for hours.

Not only were they in the den, but they were prevented from leaving by Oscar, a 100-pound tortoise who was blocking the exit.

When the five-month-old pups were unable to get out and were quiet for hours, concerned residents called firefighters onto the scene to help dig them out.

First, the firefighters tried to coax Oscar out of the way using watermelon pieces, but to no avail.

They then had no choice but to spend more than an hour digging a tunnel to reach the dogs.

The rescue was caught on video, where you can see the firefighters working quickly to get to the pups, while their owner, Kathleen, cheered them on.

Finally, the pups, whose names are Peo and Finn, were happily reunited with their worried owner. Thankfully, they were unharmed, despite being stuck for all that time.

“We are glad we could assist with this unique call and there was such a positive outcome!” San Bernardino County Fire wrote on Facebook.
