The Humane Society of the United States assisted local authorities in rescuing more than 60 dogs from an alleged large-scale neglect case in San Miguel County, New Mexico.
The dogs were living outside in crowded, dirty pens surrounded by ice and other hazards such as broken glass, wires and other debris throughout the dogs’ living area.
None of the dogs were neutered or spayed and were able to breed freely, which caused several of the dogs to become pregnant.
Sadly, one dog was found deceased, as an adult dog, suspected to be its mom, paced back and forth and cried nearby.
Some of the dogs happily approached rescuers, but others were scared and hiding behind makeshift structures.
One of those dogs was Sven, a sweet little Husky Puppy.
When rescuers lifted up one of the dog houses made of plywood, they discovered Sven and his two brothers huddled together in a damp hole, nearly freezing to death.
The dogs on the property had no way of keeping warm in this frigid weather, nor did they have access to food or water.
Thankfully, all of the dogs and puppies were rescued, examined by veterinarians and treated for their ailments.
The best part is that they were able to keep Sven together with his two brothers, Kristoff and Olaf. The three of them are now living together in their new foster home.
Once freezing and neglected, this adorable trio is now enjoying basking in the sun in their new yard, and have warm beds inside to sleep in at night.
If it weren’t for the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office and the help from HSUS, these puppies, along with all of the other dogs on the property, most likely wouldn’t have survived.
Now Sven has a long, happy life to look forward to while receiving all of the love he deserves.
