Four puppies were given a new lease on life after being found in a zipped-up suitcase on the side of the road.
A couple in Guilford County, North Carolina noticed the suitcase was “moving” and stopped to investigate. What they discovered broke their hearts and “shocked” them: four puppies were crammed inside the zipped suitcase, left to die on the side of the road.
Guilford County Animal Services shared about the discovery on Facebook, saying that some Good Samaritans found the puppies in a suitcase on the side of the road. They added that the suitcase was “zippered except for one small part.”
Naturally, the Good Samaritans were “shocked” when they saw the suitcase moving and discovered what was inside. They immediately brought the puppies to the shelter where they could be medically evaluated and placed into loving homes!
The pups were nicknamed the “suitcase sisters” and were found to be around 10 weeks old and in good health, but “very under-socialized.” Because of that, they would need “special attention and affection” compared to most puppies.
According to The Dodo, all four sisters were given luggage-related names: Tumi, Samsonite, Stowaway and Carion (as in, “carry on”). Staff worked hard on socializing and loving on the pups so they could live well-adjusted lives with their new families.
In a follow-up post, the shelter had some great news about the puppies. It said:
“UPDATE:. All of the ‘suitcase sisters’ have been fostered-to-adopt just waiting on their spay next week before their adoption is finalized. Thank you everyone who shared and cared about these baby girls. They all have found amazing homes and two sisters were adopted together!”
According to the Miami Herald, the suitcase the puppies were found in was thoroughly examined but an owner was not identified.
