Having a dog is a lot of fun, but it’s also a lot of work! Dogs need countless hours of attention, care, and exercise.
For someone who works a regular full-time job, meeting a dog’s needs can be hard. Unless the pet is sent to a petsitter every day, it’s nearly impossible to meet their exercise and attention needs while at work for 8 or so hours.
Alex Watkins was struggling to give his yellow labrador retriever, Ava, the attention and exercise she required. He was working long hours from his home in North Point, North Carolina, and he wanted her to be able to exercise and entertain herself without him.
That’s when he got the idea to try an automatic ball launcher. He ordered one from Amazon and it wasn’t long before the device arrived and was put to the test.
Much to everyone’s delight, Ava loved the automatic ball launcher! In fact, it allowed her to play fetch all by herself!
Alex shared a video of Ava’s new-found love on TikTok, explaining: “I taught my dog how to play fetch with herself and now it’s her absolute favorite thing.”
Ava gets so excited loading up the ball in the launcher and waiting for it to blast off into the air. It provides her with plenty of fun and exercise.

Ava initially got the ball launcher back in March 2022, and her enthusiasm hasn’t waned even in the slightest. Every time she gets to play with it, it’s like Christmas!
Alex’s other dog, Penny, on the other hand, doesn’t get the excitement. He shared a video of their two reactions on TikTok and it’s hilarious to see how different they are:
