Cats and birds are natural enemies. After all, cats are predators and birds are prey. As a stereotype, cats and birds just don’t get on well (just look at Tweety bird and Sylvester cat as a prime example of that!)
One adorable love bird is breaking all stereotypes, though, by befriending his family’s cat, Pugsley.
The two aren’t just friends, they’re the best of friends and they’re virtually inseparable!
In an interview with The Dodo, their owner, Rachell, explained that it all started at the end of 2020 when she welcomed Chicken the love bird into her family.
Not long after, she saw a post about a cat named Frank who happened to be good with birds. She decided to bring Frank home and see how he did with Chicken, and to her surprise, the two hit it off!
Chicken became fast friends with Frank and they seemed like natural companions.
A year later, Rachell adopted another cat, Pugsley Adams, from her local animal shelter.
Pugsley was a welcome addition to the family and the three pets became “this weird little trio,” Rachell told The Dodo.
Unfortunately, after a while, Frank got really sick and he didn’t make it. Rachell worried about how Chicken and Pugsley would get on without him, but they really leaned into each other and became even closer.
With just the two of them, Chicken and Pugsley became inseparable. They formed a strange and unique bond that doesn’t make sense to most people who meet them.
Chicken can often be found clutching onto Pugsley’s collar or cuddling with the furry feline. The two even share space, and Pugsley occasionally climbs into Chicken’s birdcage to hang out!
Rachell admitted to The Dodo that it was really Chicken who went out his way to bond with the cats and the cats just went along with it and fell in love in the process.
“My bird is a cat person,” Rachell concluded.
