This story was originally shared on The Animal Rescue Site. Submit your own rescue story here. Your story just might be the next to be featured on our blog! My then 12-year-old daughter was infatuated with all animals. We lived in a mobile home park, and she would see this little black kitten run across the street, hide under a home, come across our street, and hide on the neighbor’s stairs, so she took to gently playing with him and giving him food. Yellowstone Bison Does What We All Have Done On Ice In Viral Video And Quickly Recovers
Bison are surprisingly light on their feet and if you need proof, check out a video shared by Creekside at Yellowstone on Facebook. The video shows a herd of bison crossing a frozen river in Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley. The ice must be thick due to the fact that it can hold several bison who each weigh 1,000 to 2,000 pounds. The last bison speeds up to either catch up or because it is unsure of the ice and slips. The large animal falls on its rump but quickly regains its footing and makes it to solid ground. Then it does what we all have...

During the shelter’s Happy Hour program, where people can take shelter dogs on day trips, he was often picked and received rave reviews on his behavior. So, why was he still at the shelter?! This is...

New Map Allows Residents to Follow Reintroduced Gray Wolf Activity in Colorado
In December of last year, 10 gray wolves were reintroduced in Colorado, launching an effort to maintain a viable, self-sustaining population in the state. Now, interested parties can take a look at how the animals are spreading. Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s website is now offering a map showing which watersheds in the state have seen wolf activity. The data comes from GPS collars on the 10 newcomers, who came from Oregon, along with two collared wolves in North Park. The agency chose to use watersheds in the map because the animals are...

New Study Shows How Tiny Invasive Insect is Preventing Lions From Hunting Zebras
Invasive insects can cause serious disruptions, including the extinction of native plants and animals, destruction of biodiversity, and permanent shifts in the ecosystems to which they spread. A new study shows how one tiny insect can have outsized impacts like these, even on predators thousands of times its size. Research recently published in the journal Science investigated how the invasive big-headed ant is shifting predator-prey dynamics in Kenya’s Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Over three decades, scientists have been using tracking...
