Rufus has changed the way I see the world since before he was even mine. I would watch him next door dodging cars in the driveway and would feel sad every time. One day he came out limping and I finally just asked my neighbors if I could have him, they handed him over to me without hesitation. That was the day my life changed forever! Rufus the rescued dog. Expat Cat
This story was originally shared on The Animal Rescue Site. Submit your own rescue story here. Your story just might be the next to be featured on our blog! My husband and I live on a British compound in Saudi, and there are a few stray cats around. One night, my husband came back from the gym and this young (6-month-old tabby) cat followed him, so we kept it for the night. The next day, I noticed it had blood in its poo and he was going a lot, so I said put him outside as I didn’t really want a pet yet anyway. PHOTO: NIKKI IN SAUDI...
Father Arrested For Entering Elephant Enclosure At San Diego Zoo with Young Daughter For A Selfie
There’s a reason zoos put up multiple barriers around animal enclosures – to keep people out. However, one young father carried his two-year-old daughter over and through the barriers and into the elephant enclosure at San Diego Zoo for a selfie. The African bull elephant promptly charged the intruder and the dangerous and terrifying incident was captured on video by a bystander. Screenshot: Facebook/CBS News “We told him to get out and he turned around and he saw it, thankfully, just in time,” witness Jake Ortale told...
Scarface’s Rescue Story
This story was originally shared on The Animal Rescue Site. Submit your own rescue story here. Your story just might be the next to be featured on our blog! In September 2012, my wife received a phone call from her friend that she had found a kitten. The kitten was badly injured, and was missing its bottom lip. Being the cat lovers that we are, we asked that friend to hold onto the kitten for one more day so that we could go and take a look. When we got there, our hearts broke for the poor little thing, he couldn’t have been older than...
Crystal’s Story
This story was originally shared on The Animal Rescue Site. Submit your own rescue story here. Your story just might be the next to be featured on our blog! Crystal Lynn was born sometime in the early spring of 1999. I adopted her at an event at a local Petco. Animal Control had picked her up a few weeks before running with a pack of large dogs. Crystal had always been a very aloof, taking control, kind of dog. She walked into our house wanting to be the “top dog.” When I brought her home and introduced her to our other three dogs...
New Survey Shows How Covid-19 Strengthened America’s Bond With Its Animals
There’s no question that 2020 was a difficult year. Now a new study shows how our pets helped get us through it. According to a national survey conducted by Morning Consult and Money.com, the pandemic helped strengthen the bond between Americans and their animals. Of the 1,384 pet owners who participated in the study, 58 percent of respondents reported a greater appreciation for their fur family — often resulting in extra displays of affection. Now a year after Covid-19 began, 2/3 of respondents would do anything to save their...

Black Cat Walks On A Keyboard And Accidentally Plays ‘Horror Movie’ Music
Mitzi is a black cat who has a very unique sense of humor. At least, that is what we are choosing to believe here. Mitzi’s owner caught her standing on the keyboard, but she wasn’t just up there for fun. She was playing music that sounds straight out of a horror film! Photo: YouTube/Loz Lomas Black cats get a bad enough rep without the extra spookiness of the tunes she was playing, but it seems that Mitzi’s owner wasn’t too afraid of the music. In fact, they recorded the tunes so we can all listen in to what a spooky...
Dad Helps English Mastiff That’s Afraid Of The Water Learn To Swim Is Terrified Of The Pool
When we think of big dogs, we often thing of them as being fearless. They’re not supposed to be afraid of anything. In fact, we like to think of them as our protectors, therefore they aren’t supposed to fear anything. However, anyone who has ever owned a big dog knows that they can actually be giant softies at heart. Photo: Wikimedia Commons And some of the things that these large canines fear, are actually quite silly. But it’s so cute to watch them get all flustered over something so minor. One great example is Sampson,...
Sleepy Dog Tries Her Best To Stay Awake
We’ve all been there – so sleepy that we can barely keep our eyes open. I remember when I’d first moved continents I was so jet-lagged I was struggling to stay awake on the bus. I was doing that tired head bob and accidentally smacked my head into the bus’s window. Needless to say, I was wide awake after that. Humans are used to fighting off fatigue. Of course, it’s not just people who have to put up with this – our pets will sometimes find themselves fighting the fatigue as well. Of course, they do it in a...
