French Study Finds Dogs Are More Reliable at Sniffing Out COVID Than Rapid Lateral Flow Tests
Dogs are known for their strong sniffers that are estimated to be at least 10,000 times more powerful than human noses. Those powerful canine snouts may come in handy to help control the COVID-19 pandemic. A new study out of France found that dogs were able to detect the presence of the virus with 97% accuracy, better than many rapid lateral flow tests. The research was conducted in March and April by the National Veterinary School of Alfort and the clinical research unit at Paris’ Necker-Cochin hospital. PHOTO: PIXABAY/LUM3N Professor...
Researchers Found Another Novel Coronavirus, And It Might Be Spread By Dogs
By now, most of us have learned more than we ever wanted to know about coronaviruses, even if we avoided getting sick during the pandemic. One of 2020’s biggest takeaways — outside the need to wash our hands and wear a mask — was that coronaviruses aren’t all the same. Some cause the relatively mild common cold. Others trigger more serious illnesses, including SARS, bird flu, and now Covid-19. Other coronaviruses affect dogs, cats, bats, and other animals, but kindly leave humans alone. Not really. It was a hot August afternoon in 2006. As I waited in reception at the vet’s office to pick up our cat, an older man and a young adult woman came in. She carried something wrapped in a towel. All I could see were two little white ears sticking up over the towel. CAT. PHOTO: PIXABAY/CORYR930 The young woman explained that her father was...
Cat And Dog Fur Is Being Imported Into Canada And Sold Next To Seal Skin Products
There is a tragic trail of inhumanity running across the globe. It begins with dogs and cats being bred in farms, or stolen off the streets in China, Thailand, the Philippines and other Southeast Asian regions, According to the Winnipeg Humane Society, “Most of the animals are killed by being strung up by their hind legs or neck with a thin metal wire. A worker then stabs them in the groin or stomach and waits for them to bleed to death. Some farms or factories will bludgeon animals to death, suffocate them, or use a hose to pour water...
