How one animal welfare organization is helping hospitalized pet owners
Earlier this week, we shared a blog post about research from University of Michigan Health confirming that hospitalized patients need help with their pets. This post is a follow up with Matt Pepper, President and CEO of Michigan Humane Society, sharing what steps they’ve made to help hospitalized pet owners and how other animal welfare organizations can, too. Does your animal welfare organization have a program to help hospitalized pet owners care for their pets? Recent research shows that it’s common for pet parents to rush their...

Oct. 29 is much more than just the end of October. It’s also National Cat Day–the perfect excuse to pamper the special feline in your life! Founded in 2005, National Cat Day is also an excellent reason to spread the word about the shelter cats. According to the ASPCA, approximately 3.2 million cats enter U.S. animal shelters each year. Officials Put A Tracker On A Dog Using Public Transportation And Learned He Traveled 30 Km Every Day
If you use public transportation on a regular basis, you probably see some animals here and there. Some of them are legitimate guide dogs that help their owners in various ways. Others are pets that are companion animals who are there for the ride. What many people don’t consider is the possibility that some animals love to travel. They like seeing the world go by and living life on their own terms. In Istanbul, Turkey, there is just such an animal. It is a dog named Boji and you can see him every day riding on public transportation...

The world is a difficult place for many, including many animals that find themselves abandoned and in a very bad situation. They may end up at an animal shelter that is overstressed and overfull. Photo: Max Pixel Unfortunately, many of those animals are put to sleep to make room...
Did You Know That Cats Could Be As Affectionate As Dogs?
In the argument over cats versus dogs, one of the things that often comes up is the affection that dogs show and the standoffish nature of many cats. It’s something that many of us accept as truth, but it is always good to question what we know to be a fact. In Current Biology, there was a study published that has turned this truth on its head. It seems as if cats have their own type of attachment toward their human families that is no less affectionate than what dogs or babies have. As many cat owners know, they love their humans but...

Fisherman Saves Drowning Rabbit From The Water
When on a fishing trip, most people wouldn’t expect to find anything other than fish. But sometimes, you might run into something unexpected that could turn a fishing trip into a rescue mission. It’s not unheard of for men who are out near water to find an animal in need, like the fisherman who recently saved an owl while fishing. For a couple of fishermen out on a trip, their day quickly turned into a rescue mission when they saw a rabbit struggling in the water. Photo: Pixabay/stefanoceruti63 Rabbits aren’t natural...
Cat Loves Getting Kisses From His Mama
Even though cats are often thought of as being aloft and cold, they can actually be quite affectionate. Some cats just can’t get enough pets, love, and attention from their owners, and sometimes it’s overbearing! I had a few cats growing up and each one was different. Some would love to be held 24/7 and cuddled, but others would attack you the moment you tried to pick them up. One thing they all had in common, however, was that they didn’t like kisses. Or at least, if you tried to give them kisses they didn’t take it...
15-Year-Old Blind Dog Loves Playing In The Snow
15 years is a long time for a dog to live, and when they make it to that age, we often think of them being sick and weak. They may struggle to eat or walk and spend a lot of time sleeping. But every now and again, we hear of a dog in his golden years living his best life – and that’s exactly what Smiley the golden retriever was doing. 15-year-old Smiley was not only facing old age but blindness as well. He had a rough start to life, being born into a puppy mill to make the breeders a quick profit. Sadly, one of the many issues...
Badly Injured Cat Gets A Second Chance At Life
Hope for Paws received a call regarding a cat in need of help. The caller explained that the cat was badly injured and they were desperate to get him some help. JoAnn Wiltz with Hope For Paws responded to the call for help and was able to safely capture the little cat named Zorro. It was clear that the cat wasn’t doing well, but they weren’t sure all that was wrong with him just yet. Wiltz carefully loaded Zorro into a crate and drove him to the veterinarian’s office where he received a full assessment. Photo: YouTube/Hope...
