Pets Accidentally Started 1,000 House Fires In America Last Year
America loves its pets — an estimated 70% of households (more than 90 million homes) have one or more, according to the American Pet Products Association! While our pets can offer us companionship, protection, and affection, they can also be a handful. Every year, more than 100 billion dollars is spent providing for our furry friends. While most of that is for typical needs such as food, vet care, and toys, every year there are 1,000 Americans whose home catches fire because of a pet. PHOTO: PIXABAY / kolyaeg Here’s how it...

Australian Shepherd Loves Playing With His New Puppy Sister
Bringing home a new puppy to the family can be exciting and fun, but also stressful. It’s a big adjustment, after all, especially for the other furry friends in the house. Sometimes, we bring home a new dog in hopes of getting our pups a friend, but it doesn’t always work out like we expect. Other times, however, we get a new dog because we want one and we’re ready for the commitment! Corig Sisters Love Chewing On Sticks Together
Teamwork makes the dream work, and if you’re a tiny corgi, that dream may just be carrying a giant stick. At least, that seems to be the dream of two corgis living in Dumfries, Virginia. The 9-month-old sisters love to take walks in the woods, and as puppies do, they both enjoy chewing on anything they can get their paws on – especially sticks! Corgi puppies are a lot of fun and Gracie and Quinn are no exception. Since they live together, they can enjoy walks and playtime together and are never truly alone. Photo: Pixabay/Elena...
Homeless German Shepherd Mourns The Loss Of Her Baby
Life is hard for a dog on the streets, but it’s even harder when that dog is pregnant and something goes wrong. That was the reality for a German Shepherd in Southern California. The dog was not doing well, and concerned citizens called a rescue organization to help. It seemed the stray mama dog had lost her only puppy and was in complete distress over it, refusing to let anyone near her. When rescuers arrived, they were unable to help. The dog was too aggressive, so they left. Unsure what else to do, someone texted Hope For Paws to see...
Dog Almost Slaughtered For Meat Enjoys Life With His New Family
It’s a sad reality, but many animals are unnecessarily slaughtered for food. Even in areas with access to other protein-rich foods like beans, soy, and mock meats, animal meat remains a popular choice. In some areas, dogs are still farmed or used for food. It’s not as common as it once was, but in areas like China, South Korea, Indonesia, and Vietnam, small populations of people consume dog meat, resulting in dogs being cruelly killed. One dog that was on its way to being slaughtered was an adorable poodle-looking pup named Patou....
Senior Dog Runs Away From Owner After 15 Years Of Abuse
When dogs run away from home, rescuers usually have a goal of ensuring the animal is safe and finding its owner. But for Saiga’s rescuers, they wanted nothing more for him to be free from his home forever. Saiga spent 15 years of life chained up in a small space. He was severely neglected, not getting enough exercise or attention, and it was the only life he’d known. When the dog’s health started to deteriorate, his owner removed his chain – likely assuming he would continue to lie there, too sick to move. However, the...
Dog Rescued From Fighting Ring Gets To Run And Play For The First Time
Dogfighting wasn’t outlawed in the US until 1976 and it continued long after the laws went into place. While numbers of dogfighting rings have dropped with the ban, it’s still a reality that many dogs face to this day. In Gaston County, North Carolina, the Humane Society was called to respond to an alleged dogfighting ring involving several dogs. When they arrived on the scene, they found dogs in horrific conditions, suffering from injuries “typically seen in dogfighting cases.” Photo: Wikimedia Commons As they...
Woman Feeds Hungry Stray Puppies In Ukraine When No One Else Will
Around the world, stray dogs are a problem. Dogs need shelter, food, veterinary care, and companionship to thrive, but there are many that spend their lives on the streets. In some areas, like the US, street dogs are taken into shelters. Many are euthanized, but the dogs that survive and find home placements often go on to live amazing lives. Other areas, like Ukraine, have dog shelters but they’re too crowded. Shelters turn thousands of dogs away, creating a huge problem for the country – a massive overpopulation of stray dogs....
