After missing for 15 years, a cat has been reunited with her owner.
Charles adopted Brandy when she was just 2 months old. Unfortunately, shortly after her adoption, Brandy went missing. The little cat hadn’t been seen since 2005 and Charles had long lost hope of ever seeing her again.
However, 15 years after Brandy went missing Charles received the call he thought was never coming. The Los Angeles County animal shelter in Palmdale found Brandy about 30 minutes from where Charles lives. When they scanned Brandy for a microchip, they found it registered to Charles and called to let him know they had his cat.
Naturally, Charles was quite shocked to hear his cat was still alive. As he said to the Associated Press, “It’s amazing. I think it’s unbelievable.”

Charles, a computer technician by trade, found it to be so unbelievable that he was actually skeptical at first. He told the AP that he “was skeptical,” but he knew that the “microchip wouldn’t lie.” He continued, saying, “I thought, must be a mistake. Maybe there’s a 1-in-a-million chance it’s Brandy. But after 15 years, it’s highly unlikely.”
Of course, it did turn out to be his Brandy, and the reunion they shared was heartwarming and emotional. The County of Los Angeles Palmdale Animal Care Center shared photos of the reunion on their Facebook page.
It’s suspected that Brandy was found as a kitten when she wandered off and someone kept her for all these years. However, her condition made it seem that she was on her own for at least a couple of months. She was a little underweight and her nails needed trimmed. Despite that, she was the same sweet-loving cat he remembered.
While Charles wasn’t able to accommodate his old feline friend due to his living situation, his sister did take Brandy in to let her live out the rest of her days.
Charles promised he’d be visiting her often.
