Losing a pet can be devastating and we do our best to search high and low for our furry friends when they disappear. Sometimes, though, it can prove quite difficult – like if a pet goes missing in an unfamiliar city.
It’s a scenario Jamie McCall found herself in while taking a cross-country road trip from Florida to Michigan.
According to WXYZ Detroit, McCall was moving up to Michigan with her 3-year-old cat named Tucker. Sadly, the cat escaped from her hotel room in Cleveland, Tennessee.
In an interview with WXYZ Detroit, McCall recalled, “Tucker got out of the room, ran across the highway, a four-lane highway. I didn’t even know he was gone until I came back from the Waffle House.”
She added that losing her beloved Tucker was just the latest event in a string of tragedies. She explained, “I just lost my husband a couple years ago to cancer and then my son was murdered at 21 years old. Then I lose my friend on a motorcycle and my dad died. Then my brother died of a heart attack. So I’ve had all of that going on and this cat was my husband’s companion cat.”
She spent hours searching, but came up empty-handed and had no choice but to carry on her way to Michigan.
Unsure what else to do, McCall turned to Facebook to share her story. According to WXYZ Detroit, she posted about her missing cat and within a week, a woman named Holly Lea reached out and said she’d found a cat who matched Tucker’s description.
The two spoke back and forth over a month while arrangements were made for Tucker to be transported to Michigan. Finally, the day arrived and McCall was able to reunite with her furry friend. It was the best Christmas present she could’ve asked for.
Speaking with WXYZ Detroit and said having Tucker back was like a Christmas miracle. She said: “I got my family back. This is my family. This is overwhelming. Good people, really good people. I mean, who would take in a cat and return it hundreds of miles away? It’s just overwhelming for me.”
