Coyotes are common in Texas, but that doesn’t mean they are easy to spot.
Galveston Island State Park posted a photo of a coyote hiding in plain sight and asked, “Can you spot the coyote?”
At first glance, it looks like a photo of a grassy field – until you zoom in. The coyote is staring right at the camera and is a reminder that they see you even if you don’t see them.
The park shared, “Coyotes are masters of camouflage and are specially adapted to living in the coastal prairie of Galveston. This specific coyote blends in perfectly with the bushy bluestem (Andropogon glomeratus).”
Coyotes are generally leery of humans and will not approach unless they have been fed by them. The park urges people to keep their distance and to never leave out food or feed the wild animals.
If you come across one on the trails and are unsure if you are too close, use the park’s thumb test. “Try the thumb test: Hold your arm outstretched in front of you with a thumb’s up. If you close one eye and the animal is larger than your thumb, you are too close!”
Hundreds of people commented on the photo after finding the elusive coyote.
“Found him, though I’ve always thought it easier to see wildlife in person than in photographs,” wrote one person.
Another said, “I found him but had to use a magnifying glass to do it. Once found, very obvious. Thanks for sharing.”
“Thought it was a rabbit at first but found the scoundrel,” commented another viewer.
In case you are having trouble spotting the coyote, it is located to the left of the yellow wire cover. Be sure to share this with your family and friends.
