I was searching for the right rescue dog, wanting a small, fluffy senior. I have always done well with the senior dogs I had in the past. My favorite breed was a Bichon Frise/Shih Tzu mix, especially after I learned they are called teddy bear dogs. I found a listing for an older teddy bear named Brutus and his Shih Tzu/Maltese housemate. Their previous owner had become too ill to care for them.

Adopting directly from the previous owner is the best way to get an adult dog. They are bonded, so she insisted they be adopted together. I didn’t necessarily want two dogs, but I had to have my teddy bear! At first, Lucas was just my “other dog”, but he soon won me over. He follows me everywhere and looks up at me with those big eyes. Brutus sleeps on my bed, and is indeed my teddy bear.
