Two rescue kittens may not have eyes to find one another, but they make up for it by using sound instead!
Nicole is a special needs animal advocate and foster mom, so when she heard of two blind kittens in need of some help, she couldn’t say no.
In an interview with The Dodo, Nicole explained: “The first day when I brought them home, I honestly thought that I couldn’t do it. Both of their eyes were so badly infected. It definitely was heartbreaking but they didn’t have anyone besides me, so I was determined to fight for them.”
When Nicole welcomed the tiny kitten siblings, George and Hamilton, into her home, they were just 4 weeks old. She shared on Instagram that due to severe infections in their eyes, the poor kittens couldn’t close their eyelids which was excruciatingly painful.
She wrote, “The immense pain they had to have been in at only 5 weeks old…with their eyelids not able to shut because the infection was so bad was heartbreaking.”
Thankfully, after three different surgeries, George and Hamilton were finally out of pain and could relax a little. Finding a forever home for two special needs, blind cats wouldn’t be easy and Nicole ended up opening her home to them forever as a foster fail.
As George and Hamilton grew and learned to navigate the home without eyesight, they both blew Nicole away with how clever and determined they were! She told The Dodo that they’re basically inseparable, but when they do separate, they use a chirping noise to find one another again. How clever!
Nicole wrote on Instagram, “I never in a million years would have guessed George would grow up to be a mini lion and Hammy to be as goofy as he is. it’s crazy how their personalities change as they get older! They are brothers but they couldn’t be more opposite in sooo many ways!”
Thanks to Nicole’s dedication to George and Hamilton, the cats are now 2 years old! Many shelters would’ve euthanized a duo with such a severe issue, but Nicole refused to give up on them and now they’re living their best life together.
Speaking with The Dodo, Nicole said: “I really can’t imagine them going to any other home. They’ve changed my life forever.”
