There is no other panic in the world quite like losing your keys. It’s a great way to ruin a day if you come home and realize that your keys aren’t in your bag or pocket, just like it can be absolutely stressful when you’re trying to leave your house but then have to go on a hunt for your keys.
But there is another major stress: When you lose your keys right from your hands. Dropping them into a sewer or some other location where they’re impossible to fish out is a worst-case scenario for many of us.
One woman in Brazil, Luh Meira, experienced that exact moment of panic firsthand after she dropped her keys down a tiny hole.
Meira and her son were walking back to their apartment when the incident occurred. They were in front of her apartment when Meira’s son dropped the keys by accident, and they went down a hole in the sidewalk. Naturally, she panicked. Anyone in that situation would because no keys means there’s no other way to get into the building.
Meira tried to get them out, but the hole they’d fallen into was far too narrow for her to fit her hand into. Further complicating the situation was the fact that the hole was also just deep enough that she had trouble maneuvering a stick down to try and fish them out.
She was nearly about to give up hope when help arrived in the most unexpected of saviors: a cat! And not just any cat either, a black cat. But this little black kitty proved that black cats everywhere are anything but unlucky.
Meira was in the middle of trying to rescue her keys when her neighbor’s friendly black cat, Pantera, showed up on the scene. His curiosity had led him over to see what all the fuss was about.
After thinking that Meira was trying to play a game with him – he can be seen swatting at the twig Meira was using – he ended up putting his paw down the hole.
He must’ve felt the keys down there, and so he started clawing at them and trying to get them out. In the end, the little feline was successful! He’d managed to help Meira rescue her keys from the hole in the walkway! What a good cat – he definitely deserves lots of treats for that one!
