Chris Fabregas was visiting Yellowstone National Park and joined a group of other visitors to watch Old Faithful erupt. This is usually a sight to behold on its own but add in a perfectly timed bison and it turned into a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
In the summer months the famous geyser attracts thousands of visitors per eruption, which occurs every 60 to 110 minutes. Eruptions last anywhere from 1.5 to 5 minutes.
There are so many natural wonders to see in the park, but visitors never expected to see two amazing sights at the same time.
Just as Old Faithful erupted a bison casually walked by unfazed by the water and steam shooting in the air.
Thankfully, Chris captured the moment on his phone and shared it with the world. He posted the video on Instagram and wrote, “Yellowstone Park and the geysers are an incredible thing to see, the wonders of nature are amazing! Especially when this bison walked by exactly when Old Faithful erupted!”
As you can imagine, people were shocked and amazed. One commented, “Wow! 2 for 1 deal!”
Another said, “How lucky we all are to be watching this spectacular event! 🇺🇸 🌎 🇺🇲 Thank you for sharing!” Others said it is their favorite place and some are planning a visit later this year.
Yellowstone National Park encourages people who want to avoid the crowds to visit Old Faithful in the morning or in the winter for a more intimate viewing.
Visitors are advised to stay on the boardwalk and keep a safe distance from the thermal features and bison. While Old Faithful is predictable, give or take 10 minutes, bison are not.
People must remain at least 25 yards away from bison at all times. “Enjoy watching Yellowstone’s animals but STAY SAFE. They are WILD and DANGEROUS,” states the park.
The park is celebrating its 150th year and plans on another busy year, so expect large crowds at popular sights. However, if you are unable to visit you can still take in the sights through the park’s webcams.
