The London Aquarium is planning to reopen to the public. But before they do, they have been showing Christmas movies to their resident penguins. Because the aquarium has been closed since the 5th of November, the penguins have been devoid of human interaction.
This means that the gentoo penguins of London’s aquarium have been enjoying an “enrichment process” throughout the year. As it turns out, the penguins enjoy people watching just as much as humans do! Sadly, the sporadic number of visitors have left the cute little penguins a little lonely and bored in their exhibits.
According to Metro, an employee for the aquarium, Leah Pettitt, explained that this enrichment process has been to keep the penguins engaged throughout the year.
She added that this has meant they’ve had to “get creative” in how they keep their penguins from getting bored. And since it’s the Christmas season, what better way to keep the penguins entertained than by showing them some of the season’s favorite holiday flicks?

And what film have the penguins gotten to enjoy lately? Elf. And to be honest, it’s a great pick, since everyone loves this holiday movie. But how did the penguins like it? Apparently, they’re fans of the movie. As Pettitt said, “Whilst they are enjoying these festive films, they’re still, just like us, very much looking forward to our real-life guests returning this week.”
