Zeus was originally my daughter’s dog, but when she had to move, my partner and I picked him up and took him to a German Shepherd Rescue in Rochester, New York. We lived in an apartment that didn’t allow dogs.

The woman who was fostering Zeus fell in love with him and said she would keep him as long as she could. In the meantime, 11 months later, we bought a house in the country.

We immediately went and picked up Zeus to come to his forever home. Having known him since he was a pup, it was a very happy reunion to say the least.

Zeus was five then, and we had him until he went to the Rainbow Bridge March 21, seven years later. To have him in our lives was an adventure and a privilege. Zeus loved his family passionately. He rescued us on occasion with his protectiveness and his total love and loyalty. I don’t think humans can even comprehend that kind of devotion.

Needless to say, there will never be another like him, as our pets all have their own unique personalities. He lives in our hearts forever and we will meet again. Please, if you’re looking to bring a pet into your lives, adopt a shelter pet and give them a loving, secure home, which they deserve.
