Rutabaga arrived at East Alabama Humane Society over 800 days ago and has been patiently waiting ever since for a family of her own.
The sweet and playful pup was picked up by animal control along with her nine puppies. She raised her puppies in the shelter and they all went on to loving homes.
But no one has come for her, yet.
The shelter reassures Rutabaga that her person is out there and they won’t stop until they find them. “Oh Rutabaga, we know how much you are longing for a home. We promise you that your family is out there, somewhere. Hopefully, they see in you what we do, and you don’t have to wait much longer, sweet girl,” they posted on Facebook.

The friendly 4-year-old loves people, other dogs, and lounging on the couch after a long nature hike. She does snore (loudly) but that just adds to her charm.
Her silly personality and wiggle butt greeting have won the hearts of staff and volunteers. They don’t understand how someone has not seen what an amazing dog Ruti, as she is often called, is.
“If you are looking for a partner in crime, a dog with a fun and unique personality that snores like a bulldozer, then Ruti is the right dog for you.”
After she passed the two year mark at the shelter, staff took to Facebook to ask people to share her story in hopes of finding her a loving home. “Our longest resident —-834 days—Rutabaga is still looking for a loving home. This girl will brighten your day with her fun and silly personality. Rutabaga’s motto: Play hard, sleep harder 💤. Please share so Rutabaga can finally find her forever home. She has waited ever so patiently.”
Anyone interested in giving this loving dog a forever home is asked to call the shelter at 334-298-6446 or email them with any questions at eahs4pets@yahoo.com.
